For me, creating a good portrait is all about working with empathy with whoever I'm photographing, whether the youngest of children or a great-grand-parent. A portrait photograph is all about capturing and conveying what I think of as the true self of who is in front of the camera.
I try to be informal and relaxed with everyone I'm photographing and in whatever location I'm photographing them. A lifestyle portrait for a couple or a location shot for a family group; a photo of a new born baby at home or a considered character study of an artist or performer - everyone can be the subject.
Special events are often the reason for a portrait session, an engagement or christening, bar mitzvah or anniversary. I also work with many people on an ongoing basis and photograph them regularly, capturing the growth of their family on an annual basis.
